Biography

YARS - 1990
My mother gave me a birth in April 12th, 1972 and from that day I lived in Opatija, a small Croatian town by the sea, without caring at all about the drums, but dreaming of how I will one day become a world famous comic book artist. At the end of primary school, especially after the arrival in high school, I realized that almost everyone can draw better than me, so I decide to leave the drawing and take on something else. Like every other 13-15 years old kid from Opatija in mid-eighties, I use to sneak out from home sometimes and went to a local club and there I enjoyed the music. That was the time when I heard bands such as Pink Floyd, Simple Minds, Midnight Oil, Depeche Mode, The Police...
I still remember the day when I first heard the song "Sunday Bloody Sunday" from the legendary U2.
You know it's intro, right?
That was the exact moment when I decided to start playing the drums. At age of 16 I joined to my first band. It was a local Punk-Rock band called YARS with Alen "Slim" Čar on the bass, Dražen "Šajeta" Turina on the guitar/vocals, and me on the drums. I am very proud on that band and happy that we're still good friends after all these years.
HERE you'll find the whole biography (only in Croatian language, sorry), MP3 and photos of YARS.

MAYFLOWER - 1994
A year or two latter, I joined the excellent alternative-rock band called MAYFLOWER in which I was surrounded just by girls: Maja Rubeša - vocals, Nataša Czerny - guitar and Mara Kučan - bass. In 1994 we have represented Croatia at the Biennial of Young Artists of Europe and Mediterranean in Lisbon, Portugal - really great experience!

At that time, I was influenced by four drummers, and those are: Larry Mullen Jr. (U2), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Boris Leiner (Azra) i Srđan "Žika" Todorović (EKV), and I was crazy about bands such as: Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Cure, Sex Pistols, Exploited, The Rezillos, Einstürzende Neubauten, Sugar Cubes, Paribrejkers, Disciplina Kičme, Električni Orgazam... and then I was introduced to a great guitar and bass guitar player Ljubomir Silić (Let 3, Laufer, Urban & 4, Metrobolik) who gave me a soundtrack from "The Last Temptation of Christ" which was written by Peter Gabriel (Billy Cobham on drums) and the album "Live at the Royal Festival Hall" by John McLaughlin Trio (Trilok Gurtu on drums and percussion) and that BLOWS MY MIND! From that moment I develop a great passion for exploring all kinds of music and I become a huge fan of all sorts of fusion music, funk music, blues, African and Indian traditional music, jazz, world music in general...
On this journey, which fortunately is still going on, I met and play with almost 30 bands and soloists, and I like to mention a few:
ŠAJETA (Cro), BLIND DATE (hr), GRAD (hr), DIRTY UNDERWEAR (nl), WRIT TO DAISY (nl), LES BRAMBLES (hr), VERY EXPENSIVE PORNO MOVIE (nl / hr), LATINO (hr), CHICKEN WINGS (hr), LUKE MacDEANSTEI (hr)...

In 1995 I moved in Netherlands and start to work on my education there.
I attended a Tune Up Muziekinstituut in Haarlem, where I was taught by two teachers: Guido Schijen (music theory, solfeggio, combo lessons) and Joost Lijbaart (drums). A year latter I passed the entrance examination at Rotterdams Conservatorium where I studied drums with professor Fred Krens.

Today I live in Rijeka (Croatia), and play drums in a great rock band ONE POSSIBLE OPTION.
